Scripture Union Daily Guide 27th July 2025 Outline

Here was a priest available for hire, and a tribe seeking for a priest and a father. What a pitiful coincidence, since he was a priest for a family shrine, carved image and cast idols! Painfully, this was God’s priest with complete ministerial dress (ephod) but with wrong beliefs, serving in a shrine. (Teraphims are household gods). Quite a combination!
Why was the priest happy with the offer (Judges 18:19-20)? A juicier offer, with better conditions of service, or greater audience and influence? Is this a case of service to the highest bidder? The priest was ready and resumed work suddenly, but in the wrong place.

What do you see as lacking in this land that the Danites found? Everything seemed to be in place: abundant prosperity but no security or precaution, clearly isolated and far from any nearby help. See their fate at the end of the day. Many people still fall into this temptation of gathering much wealth and resources or influence, feeling self-satisfied or contented, but are not secure in Jesus. So, they remain vulnerable to attacks and exploitation or manipulation by the devil and his agents.

And So
Consider why God warns us to look out for one another rather than be self-absorbed. Read Judges 18:27-28 again. Are the people of Laish an example to follow or not to follow?

Insight
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Impatient heart, be still
1. Impatient heart, be still!
What though He tarries long?
What though the triumph song
Is still (is still) delayed?
Thou hast His promise sure,
And that is all secure;
Be not afraid! Be not afraid!

Refrain
Be still! Be still!
Impatient heart be still!

2. My eager heart, be still!
Thy Lord will surely come,
And take thee to His home,
With Him (with Him) to dwell;
It may not be today;
And yet, my soul, it may;
I cannot tell, I cannot tell.

3. My anxious heart, be still!
Watch, work, and pray, and then
It will not matter when
Thy Lord (Thy Lord) shall come;
At midnight, or at noon;
He cannot come too soon
To take thee home, to take thee home.

Closing Prayer
Dear Lord, help me to be sensitive to the leading of your Holy Spirit in making decision, and thus discern that all that glitters is not gold.
